Isn't it great to see the newsletter return! One more step towards life settling down and reprising some familiar routines. Not that it will ever get back to the way it was, mind you. It will take some time to figure out what a new "normal" will be for us here and for everyone all over the world. We all have been affected by COVID-19 in one way or another. Determining the path forward will be a challenge for us all.
I am so happy to finally be able to join in one of our local traditions by contributing to our monthly newsletter. It gives me a chance to share with you things I've been thinking about as well as tell you about upcoming events.
Along that line, I am excited to tell you about something I have decided to do that will be a challenge and hopefully a blessing for all of us. Most of you know that I completed all my Course of Study classes that are required of those who are Local Licensed Pastors. Recently, I have been approved by our Northern Waters District to pursue Associate Member status within the Michigan Area Conference. If you are like many of my friends, about now you are probably shaking your head and thinking, "And what does that mean, Pastor Penny?" I invite you to read the separate article on page 5 where I explain this a bit more in detail.
What this will mean in the short term for me as your pastor: I am going to be on a tight schedule to get a number of projects researched, written, and presented all by September 1, 2021.
What does this mean in the short term for you? You will have another opportunity to participate in a small group Bible Study (one of the things I must create and teach within the deadline). An additional benefit will be that my research for the paper I have to write will enrich our worship services and our ministry to the community.
Looking at the calendar, I am mindful that my anniversary date is coming up. I moved into the parsonage on May 20, 2020. Am I all settled in yet? Ha! No, but that will happen with time. Hard to believe it's coming up to a full year with you all. And you know what? Even with the masks and the distancing and the chaos, I still feel blessed beyond measure to be your pastor and to be in ministry with you. Thank you!
God's Peace Be With You!
